The acceptance, on the part of the House Majority Leader and the State Department, of an invalid document produced by the Canadian government as a waiver of Scott Loper's rights under the Vienna Convention, is a intolerable. As a U.S. citizen, I am appalled that my government is not standing up for our rights in a matter important to every U.S. citizen traveling or residing outside this country. Scott Loper deserves justice. It is an important matter concerning all of us. The Canadian government should not be allowed to present what amounts to phony evidence as an excuse for violating the rights of one of our own. Furthermore, in consideration of the fact that he was denied these rights, it should be up to that government to prove that reasons for his incarceration held any validity in the first place. This matter should be investigated fully and the Canadian government should be forced to comply with their international agreements. As a direct representative of American citizens, I am counting on you to react. Please protect our rights as human beings and American citizens. Please do not let these intolerable acts go unabated. Mr. Loper and every U.S. citizen deserves justice on the part of both the Canadian and American governments.
